Purpose of the Atlas:

•  elevate awareness and visibility of watershed organizations across Indiana
•  connect citizens who are interested in learning more about their watershed and potentially participating with active watershed groups, and
•  inform local and statewide decision makers about the scope of activity, and the need for watershed support in active and inactive areas of the state.

To Use the Atlas

Use Internet Explorer browser version 5.0 or higher to have full function of the Atlas.

Zoom: First, zoom in to the area you are interested in. More information will appear as you zoom in. You can zoom in by (1) Clicking on the + in the bottom left, or (2) Rolling your mouse wheel forward.

Note: There are five different layers of map detail, depending on your zoom level. As you zoom in, you will see 14-digit watersheds and labeled roads. When the scale is large enough, watershed group names appear. Zoom in until you see enough detail.

Detail Changes At Various Zoom Levels

Pan:
To move around the map, click and drag the map. (This only works in Internet Explorer.)

Identify Active Groups: In any watershed that is colored, we know of at least one organization. Click on the watershed, and a popup window will appear with the group name. (There is space for up to three groups, because in some watersheds there is more than one group.) In the future, this window will contain contact information.

Use the Atlas to identify 14-digit HUCs : This map also provides an easy way to identify any 14-digit watershed's hydrologic unit code and name.

Your Feedback is Needed:

This is a prototype map. Please send comments, corrections, and new organization listings to Brent Ladd at Purdue University (laddb@purdue.edu).

Watershed groups included in this Atlas are ones that we know about from our work and from lists that have been compiled over the years by IDEM, CTIC's Know Your Watershed program, and others. Please send the Atlas link to anyone else that may know of additional groups. We would be pleased to update and complete the map by adding additional groups. To do so, we need to know contact information and if available watershed outline/boundaries (14 digit HUA area names are best). We can work with the group contact to determine the boundaries.

This Atlas is a product of the Indiana Watershed Leadership Program, Purdue University . We hope it will result in stronger linkages among watershed organizations, experts and researchers, and policy makers leading to improved support for watershed protection activities.
