BRANDING: WHY IT'S IMPORTANT

Branding is all in how we carry our name. Even loyal customers know us by many names. But they often don't know how to find us in the phone book or in a building directory. Often people don't recognize when someone is talking about Purdue Extension, but using one of our other names. Consistent use of Purdue University and Purdue Extension will help brand our names. Of course, consistent use of the name must be associated with great customer service.

Each year there are literally millions of times people see, read or hear about Purdue Extension. When you give a speech, host a meeting, work with the news media, or produce a newsletter, you are -- in fact -- marketing Purdue University and Purdue Extension.

How do we brand?
Consistent use of our names and images help with branding. We need to be known as Purdue Extension. Along side our name, we should associate the Purdue logo and the current slogan.

Also, keep in mind that our formal name is:
Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service.
This name should appear in formal locations, such as stationery, envelopes, and contracts. However, Purdue Extension can appear in all other references to our name. For county and department reference, consider using:

Purdue Extension Purdue Extension
XYZ County XYZ Department

What Will Branding Accomplish?
When people hear the name Purdue Extension, they will associate it with life-long learning in the areas of emphasis to Purdue Extension. In time, they will be able to easily find and identify Purdue Extension and not confuse us with a Purdue branch campus. People will know what Purdue Extension stands for and the type of education we represent.
