This manual encourages young people to experience the structure and purpose of government at its most basic level — the local board. These local boards do, in fact, run much of our world, and two of the most influential are the local school corporation board and the local library board of trustees. This curriculum uses a variety of activities, including interviews, research, and the Internet, to assist youths in learning more about these boards and to increase their future civic participation. The project introduces the two boards, explains the role of the boards in citizens’ daily lives, and discusses who serves on the boards and how they are appointed.
