For
more than a century, 4-H has helped young people develop life skills tied
to the four H’s: head, heart, hands, and health. Many of the teaching
materials developed today still are used in the traditional setting of a
4-H club. But the materials also are for sale to teachers for school enrichment
and after-school programming, to home school families who seek hands-on
learning experiences, and to parents and grandparents who are looking for
fun activities to do with their children and grandchildren.
Indiana Government, By the People is a series
of 4-H publications designed to create a new generation of informed and
involved voters. Each manual costs $4.50 (including shipping and handling)
and contains activities and worksheets appropriate for upper elementary
and middle school students.
- The first title, Introducing
the General Assembly
(4-H-896), explains in 24 pages
how the Indiana Legislature works and what it does.
- The second title in the series, Boards
That Run My World (4-H-912), looks at how the local school
board and the county library board operate.
- The third manual is The
Indiana Trial Court System: At a Courthouse Near You (4-H-971),
a 32-page overview of Indiana’s local courts.
- The fourth manual in the series, The Indiana Appellate Process: Courts of Last Resort (4-H-972), is a 36-page booklet that describes Indiana's appellate courts and the appellate process.
