Hot and Dry Conditions
Avoid herbicide applications on drought-stressed or dormant turf. If you want to keep the densest, greenest turf, start watering. If you choose not to water, or cannot water your lawn, the turf will naturally go dormant as part of a survival mechanism.

How to Have a Good Lawn Without Pesticides

Thatch Buildup in the LawnThatch Buildup
Thatch is a layer of both dead and living shoots, stems and roots that accumulate just above the soil surface. Thatch accumulates when turf growth surpasses microbial breakdown. Turfgrass leaves are of little consideration in thatch accumulation since they are readily broken down, whereas the roots and stems break down slowly and are actually recognizable within the thatch layer.
