To help selected youth and adults develop to their
maximum potential by providing opportunities to participate actively in 4-H
program development outside their states and at national levels.

To assist states in the further development of a
system for involving youth, volunteers, and professional staff in 4-H
program planning in their states.

To provide an opportunity for Conference delegates to
update elected and appointed government officials, national associations,
donor groups, etc., on current developments in 4-H programs at national,
state, and local levels.

To provide an opportunity for inputs of youth,
volunteers, and professional staff into National 4-H Program Development
Committee deliberations.
·
To provide a system for an exchange of 4-H
programming ideas among states at a national gathering of delegates from
each state.

Livestock judging consists of carefully analyzing animals
and measuring them against a standard that is commonly accepted as being
ideal. Livestock judging also has been defined as a study of the
relationship between an animal's form and function.
There are numerous benefits to gain from competing on a
livestock evaluation team. In the course of training and competition you
are given the opportunity to interact with future leaders of the livestock
industry. You develop a keen sense of judgment and confidence to make a
decision that you defend in a set of oral reasons. Most prominent livestock
people who are masters of judgment and selection have been affected by
their involvement with livestock judging.
Share The Fun - 4-H Talent Contest

Anyone may participate,
pre-registration is required.
Open to all 4-H members.

an opportunity for youth to perform for an audience where the
performer and audience both have fun.

Habitat Evaluation Program (WHEP)

exciting educational event is to increase youth understanding of
wildlife ecology and management practices. Along with hands-on learning
opportunities, several other skills will also be enhanced. These
include team work, oral and written communication, decision making,
leadership, and interpersonal/social skills.

Science Workshops
June 10-12, 2009*
Purdue University,
West Lafayette, Indiana
Open to all youth in grades
9-12.
Applications due by March

Participants will have an opportunity to: get acquainted
with faculty members, university departments and the Purdue campus; have
fun participating in leisure activities and meeting new friends; share what
you learned with other youth.
Workshops
Available Include:
- Aerospace Science Workshop: Build
model rockets and planes, take a ride in a small airplane, and talk to
an astronaut by phone as you learn about the principles of flight and career
opportunities.
- 4-H Ambassador Workshop: To develop
skills in the areas of radio, public presentations, news writing and
marketing 4-H.
- Animal Science Workshops: Hands-on
workshops in livestock production and management and related
careers. Workshops are available for the following
species: Aquatic Science, Beef, Dogs/Cats, Dairy Cattle, Dairy
Goats, Horses, Poultry, Rabbits, Sheep, Swine, and Vet Science.
- Computer Science Workshops: Choose
one of two tracks: FLASH: Add action to your homepage OR 3-D
Modeling: Turn flat, boring graphics into 3-D images that appear to
jump off the screen.
- Electric Workshop* (June 22-24):
Participants must be in Division III or above in the 4-H electric
project. Participants will wire switches and receptacles or an
entire 4-way circuit using a computerized wiring program; Actually
wire (hands-on) switches and receptacles, both two and three-way;
Design and build a magnetic powered flashlight; Learn how to use the
various meters to measure electrical current, voltage and resistance;
Build an electronic "Decision Maker"
- Engineering Science Workshop: Investigate
Agricultural & Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, and
Electrical Engineering. Your team will design, build, and compete with
other teams in a mousetrap-powered vehicle race. Tour the engine plant
of Caterpillar, Inc., and spend time with Purdue faculty.
- Entomology Workshop:
Learn about insect structure and function, insect forensics, aquatic
insects, vector biology (insect born disease), social insects, the
molecular biology of insects, and how to control insects.
- Food Science: Work
with Purdue faculty in their laboratories to find out how corn is
processed to make cheese puffs, why juice in juice boxes doesn’t
spoil, and how low-calorie food is made. Members can
select from the following options: Food Science, Dietetics,
Nutrition Science, Nutrition, Fitness and Health, or Foods and
Nutrition in Business.
- Mission to Mars: Come learn
about what it takes to live and travel in space. This workshop
presents hands-on activities based on the issues involved with living
in a habitat on Mars. Participants will experience activities
with topics including: ecosystems, plant growth, water and waste
treatments, recycling and engineering.
- Plant Science Workshops: Participants
will learn to assist with county project workshops, learn cutting edge
aspects of plant science, and experience a wide array of information
on plant science. Members will select
from Agronomy or Horticulture options.

State 4-H Band
June 20-22, 2009

West Lafayette, Indiana
For all youth in grades
9-12.

State 4-H Band membership is open to 4-H Members and
other youth. Youth attend a 3 day band workshop at Purdue
University which culminates with
a performance at 4-H Round-Up.
Participants are chosen through a written application,
which includes a recommendation by their band and/or instrument instructor.
Selection is made by the 4-H State Band Director and state Chorus
Coordinator.
State 4-H Chorus
June 20-24, 2009
Purdue University,
West Lafayette, Indiana
For all youth in grades
9-12.
Applications due by March
16.
State 4-H Chorus membership is open to 4-H Members and
other youth. Youth attend a 5 day choral workshop at Purdue
University which culminates with
a performance at 4-H Round-Up. State 4-H Chorus also performs at the
Indiana State Fair and other selected sites.
Participants are chosen through a written application,
which includes a recommendation by their vocal and/or choral instructor.
Selection is made by the 4-H State Chorus Director and state Chorus
Coordinator. All participants will audition for parts at the June Choral
Workshop.
Youth Round Up
June 22-24, 2009
Purdue University,
West Lafayette, Indiana
Applications will be mailed
out to eligible 4-H members.
Round-Up is a three-day career exploration experience
designed especially for teens in grades 7-8.
In addition, Round-Up delegates can:
- Experience
in-depth "action learning" in specific interest areas
- Develop
leadership abilities and stimulate individual growth
- Learn about
educational opportunities of college life
State Junior Leader Conference
June 16-19, 2009
Location: University of
Indianapolis
All 4-H Junior Leaders in
grades 9-12.

The
program focuses on developing leadership, understanding of group dynamics and
an awareness of self and others. It is carried out with the guidance of
Junior Leader Council members elected at each conference to conduct the
next year's program.

An exciting experience for 4-H members and other youth of
senior high school age to go to the nation's capital and learn more about
the meaning of citizenship. Listening, learning, sharing, receiving, caring
and touring combine to provide a deeper respect and understanding for our
American heritage and the principles, processes and structures of the U.S.
government. The trip to Washington, D.C.,
will be made by Purdue charter bus.
Young people acquire increased motivation and skills for
dealing with contemporary social issues and for taking leadership in
community development, government affairs, and related projects when they
return home.
Each delegate will take part in workshops on contemporary
issues and topics such as international affairs, human relations, government,
ecology and conservation, family life and dating, community development,
drama and creative expression, economics, agricultural policy, leadership,
and careers.
In addition, advanced training sessions are scheduled to
provide in-depth concentration on one topical area such as community
development, heritage, economics, politics, environment and ecology, human
relations, communications, family life and dating, advanced
citizenship-seminar policy, and others of current interest.

State Fair Youth Leadership Conference
August 4-8, 2009

To develop a greater appreciation for the state of Indiana
through an educational experience at the Indiana
State Fair.

To promote personal growth, make personal decisions
and develop leadership skills.
·
To provide new insight into government, culture and
human relations.
·
To challenge young men and women, by participation,
to learn, to discuss, to decide and to lead, making them more aware of the
workings of their communities and better prepared for leadership roles.

National 4-H Dairy Conference
September 27-October 1, 2009
Madison, Wisconsin
4-H Dairy members grades
10-12
Applications due May 29.
4-H'ers enrolled in the dairy project may be nominated.
Delegates will be selected on the basis of achievement. The delegates
should meet the following requirements:
·
Must have completed at least three years of 4-H dairy
program.
·
Must be at least a freshman in high school, but not
over 19 years old on January 1 of the current year. (Age 16, 17 or 18
preferred).
·
Should have an outstanding record of 4-H
accomplishments with major emphasis on dairy animal projects.
·
Should have the ability to make a real contribution
to the conference and be capable of bringing inspiration and information
back to their home county.
·
Cannot be an exhibitor in the World Dairy Expo or
participant in National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest.
·
Will not be permitted to attend this conference more
than one year.
·
Must provide their own
transportation to West Lafayette.
·
Must stay throughout the entire conference.
Purpose:
- To provide
an educational program for better understanding of the operations
involved in the production, processing, marketing, and use of dairy
products.
·
To provide a means by which youth can achieve
educational objectives based on the developmental needs of youth.
·
To provide a broader understanding of careers
available in dairy production, processing, marketing, and selected areas.
Objectives:
·
To increase understanding of the dairy industry.

To learn about additional vocational and professional
opportunities in the dairy industry.
·
To practice good citizenship, group participation,
and leadership responsibilities.
