- Department
of Foods and Nutrition
This department has special strengths in calcium, vitamin D,
and bone; botanicals for age-related diseases; diet, energy balance,
and fitness; and an emerging specialty area of cancer prevention.
- Food Safety Day
This is a three-hour curriculum in safe food handling for retail food establishments. All the files are available for downloading. Other materials about safe food handling and manufacturing are available at the Department of Food and Science outreach site.
- Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN)
This site provides resources to help you solve disaster-related problems and information about who to contact in the event of a natural disaster.
- Purdue/University of Alabama Botanicals Research Center for Age-Related Diseases
This center studies the effectiveness and mechanism of action of plant compounds purported to reduce the risk of cancer, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, cognitive function, and other age-related diseases.
- The Center for Enhancing Foods to Protect Health
This multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional effort conducts research on nutraceuticals (a food or naturally occurring food supplement thought to have a beneficial effect on human health) and studies how to deliver designed functional foods to consumers.
- The Center for Food Safety Engineering
Microbiologists from the food science department work with other Purdue areas for the rapid detection and eradication of foodborne pathogens.

The center focuses on building multidisciplinary teams and developing better
approaches for detection and control of foodborne hazards that affect the U.S.
