Notes for the Program Presenter
Teaching plan for a 45 minute workshop or lesson (18
slides & notes)
- Print this
section of the Healthy Homes booklet to use for handout material.
- Make copies of the Asthma and Allergies Pre-test
& Post-test.
At the beginning of the session distribute the Pre-Test. Ask the
audience to take the quiz, telling them it is both voluntary and
anonymous. Have the completed tests passed to the back of the
room, where they can be collected.
- Ask participants if they, or someone in their family have asthma.
Sharing stories and experiences helps to understand and relate
to the problems families with this condition face.
- How do they manage it?
- What changes have they made in their homes to help the person
deal with the condition.
- Contact a local physician, or your county health nurse, or a
school nurse and ask them about the incidence of asthma in your
community. ( This information can help to localize the issue of
asthma)
- Have they seen the number of cases rise over the last couple
of years?
- What seem to be the most common triggers for the people
they work with?
- At the end of the program, distribute the Asthma and Allergies
Post-Test. Ask the audience to complete the test and leave it
on a back table or chair as they leave. Let participants know
that completion of the test is voluntary and anonymous, but the
information will be used for program improvements and Extension
reporting.
- Thank everyone for coming, and inform them that you are available
for questions.
