About Us

What is the mission of Indiana 4-H?

To assist youth and adults in their development by conducting hands-on educational programs, using the knowledge base of Purdue University, other land grant universities, and the United States Department of Agriculture.

What is 4-H?

As a member of 4-H, you get to work with adults and teen volunteers to learn and build skills in interesting areas.  Did you know that 4-H is the largest youth organization in the state and in the nation?

You can choose from more than 50 projects, including:

     Photography      Animals/Livestock
     Veterinary Science      Arts & Crafts
     Gardening      Sewing

You’ll learn many skills that will help you to become a better person.  It doesn’t matter what your interests are, because there are projects for everyone!

Take and exhibit photographs.      Care for and show an animal.
Learn about animal healthcare.      Demonstrate your artistic abilities.
Grow your own garden.      Make your own clothes.

This is your chance to help give back to your community, your state, and your world.

What do the four H’s stand for?

Head, Heart, Hands, Health

Head: 4-H gives you the opportunity to think and learn about new and exciting things.
Heart: 4-H encourages positive relationships between you, your peers, adults, and your community.
Hands: 4-H focuses on hands-on learning.
Health: 4-H helps you learn about making choices for a healthy lifestyle.

How old do I have to be to join 4-H?

All 4-H programs are inclusive and are open to everyone.  If you want to be involved in the club-based program, you have to be in grades 3-12.  Porter County offers special programs for kids in kindergarten,1st, and 2nd grades.

How much will it cost me to be in 4-H?

The cost will depend on which projects you choose.  Some projects, such as foods won’t cost as much as other projects, such as animals.

Why should I be in 4-H?

Being in 4-H means you have the opportunity to hang out with friends, have fun, and participate in exciting activities.  Members keep very busy with 4-H activities:

     Club meetings      Tours
     Trips      Camps
     Fairs      Scholarships

When you team up with an adult leader, many opportunities await you.

     Learn new skills.      Strengthen communities.
