Cultural Arts Workshop
February 26, 2009
(rescheduled from January 29, 2009)

Take advantage of this opportunity to learn a craft for your own enjoyment!  Learn basic skills to make the crafts demonstrated.  Afternoon or evening session.  Options include photography, crocheting, purse making, gourd painting, fray quilting, knitting, and basic quilting.  Click Here for More Information.

A series of 4 weekly sessions.  Learn how to manage expenses regardless of income.
Topics covered will include tracking unplanned spending, managing credit and debt, communicating with family, and much more.

Stretching Your Food Dollar

Demonstration and information on smart shopping.  Presented by Susan Peterson, Extension Educator for Consumer & Family Science.
 

Healthy Kids & Healthy Snacks

Demonstration and information on raising healthy kids and recipes for healthy snacks. Presented by Lisa Cangany, Program Assistant for Consumer & Family Science.
 

Financial Workshop

A program which includes information and tools for tracking spending, financial goals, budgeting and stretching your food dollar.
A series of 2 weekly sessions.

 

Dining with Diabetes

 This class is open to those with diabetes, their family members and caretakers.  $15/person or $20/family and pre-registration is required.  Participants must attend both class sessions.  Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one.

Smart Sitter

Come learn how to become a Smart Sitter!  Learn how to be prepared for sitting with infants, toddlers, and young children; what is most important; child development stages; age appropriate toys; first aid and safety; what to do in emergencies, and how to handle a variety of situations with children and strangers.  The 3 hour class includes videos, scenarios, role play, take home resource packet and more!.  A certificate is presented for completion of the class.  Program presented by Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service.

Master Gardener Program

Provides gardeners with intensive education in horticultural principles.
 The instruction is provided without charge, however, there is a fee for supplies which become your personal reference collection. Classes offered Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:30-9:30 p.m. depending on demand.  Participants who successfully complete the program and, thereafter, donate an equal number of volunteer hours in community gardening services are certified as Master Gardeners. Yearly donation of time is expected to maintain certification.

Next Series Starts August  2009

ACTS
"A Chance To Serve" leadership program.
Available to 9th graders.  After participating in a series of 5 day-long interactive leadership training sessions, the participants will be placed on a community board or committee for one year.  Adult community leaders will also participate in the 5 training sessions and will serve as mentors during the year's term.  Topics include communication, public speaking, listening skills, parliamentary procedure, consensus building, and community visioning - just to name a few.  Ask your school guidance counselor about the 2008 session.

Ag Day

A favorite of many 2nd grade teachers !!
Held annually in March since 1986, this program is open to all 2nd grades of Hamilton County schools. Focus is on the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.  Participants will have the opportunity to observe and learn about eleven different live animals, crop displays, 4-H, and a soil and water presentation.  A great field trip for 2nd graders, their parents, & teachers.  Learning packets are provided to the teachers.

4-H Program

Something for Everyone!
The largest youth organization in the country, 4-H is open to all youth from 3rd through 12th grade.  Over 65 "learn by doing" projects are available to cover a wide variety of  interests.  In addition to all the fun they have, youth are building responsibility, citizenship, time management, and leadership skills.
Enrollment Deadline For 2008 is March 1, 2008.

Holiday Ideas

Doors open at 6 p.m.

Join the Hamilton County Extension Homemakers for an evening of food, fellowship and holiday spirit!  Enjoy a guest speaker and receive a copy of the 2009 "Holiday Ideas" recipe and craft book. 
Cost is approximately $7.

Sewing Seminar

October 10, 2009

Smart Dollars Good Cents

A program for all ages and income levels!  This is a continuous program where participants set personal financial goals, receive newsletters, and have the option to attend "lunch and learn" sessions.  This program will continue into 2009 with programs scheduled with trustees, local libraries, after-school youth curriculum, a program for teens, and an urban farming program.
