The Director of Extension guides the administration and management for Purdue Extension, an
organization with nearly a $50 million budget and over 700 staff located
on the West Lafayette campus and throughout Indiana. They design and
deliver relevant and timely educational programs and research-based
knowledge to the over six million citizens of Indiana. The Director represents Extension in meetings with University and College
administration and with stakeholders as well as provides the
administrative link with Extension's federal partner, CSREES/USDA.

Peggy is
responsible for coordinating a comprehensive professional development and
core competency system for all Extension staff with a focus on the
orientation of new Extension educators and County Directors. As EEO and
Civil Rights Officer for Purdue Extension she provides oversight for staff
development, reporting and coordination of all aspects of civil rights,
EEO, and affirmative action with the University Offices of Affirmative
Action and Human Resources and the USDA. She also serves as the Point of
Contact between the Office of Personnel Management/USDA and all Schedule A
Federal employees of Purdue Extension. In addition she works closely with
the School of Agriculture Business office and their policies as they
relate to CES field extension operations

Dan works with
administrative and organizational issues. He is responsible for
coordination of the recruiting, interviewing and hiring process for
Extension Educators in cooperation with the Purdue Department of Human
Resource Services. Responsibilities also include oversight for personnel
issues, serving as a resource for District Directors and representing the
Director of Extension in discussions with county governments and Extension
Boards. Dan also works with budget matters, especially those dealing with
county appropriations in support of Extension programs. In addition to
responsibilities as Assistant Director for Organizational Administration,
Dan serves as District Director for the East District of Purdue
Extension.

Serves as
the Extension IRB Coordinator for the Extension Human Subjects Committee.
Coordinates the review process for Educator applications, and
maintains the database of all Extension Educator approvals. The coordinator
prepares all the Federal reports including the Annual report and the Plan
of Work Updates sent to Washington D. C. each year in the spring. The
County Educational Reviews are carried out by the coordinator. These reviews help
counties to understand the requirements for Civil Rights, Volunteer
Management, Financial Business Practices, Computer Security, and Human
Subjects files. 15-20 are conducted each year on a 5 year rotating basis.
The coordinator is available to help educators plan and develop an evaluation
effort, including the creation of the data collection instrument, analysis
of the data, and refining the evaluation report.

Janet Bechman
is the Extension Plan of Work and Accountability Coordinator. She provides
leadership for the implementation of the Plan of Work, including
incorporating the Plan of Work into the System for Accountability and
Management (SAM). She is responsible for providing leadership and
oversight for the Extension sections of SAM 2 and collaborating with AgIT.
She is responsible for staff development for SAM 2 and using information
from SAM for reporting programmatic impact to stakeholders. Janet is
responsible for instructing staff on Logic Model program development and
evaluation. She is also the coordinator of the CED Assessment Center.

Sam Cordes is responsible for Extension's Economic and
Community Development Program. He works with county-based Extension
personnel, campus faculty and staff, and external partners to support educational
programs and activities that help to create strong and vibrant communities
and neighborhoods. Five areas of emphasis are: Entrepreneurship, Planning
and Visioning, Leadership and Civic Engagement, Learning Centers/Workforce
Development, and Public Issues Education. Cordes also serves as Co-Director
of the Center for Regional Development.

The Consumer and
Family Sciences Extension program leader helps identify, implement and
evaluate educational programming in nutrition and health, human
development and family financial management. The program leader provides
linkages between the county and campus Extension staff, CFS and other
university faculty, as well as other local and state agencies and
organizations. CFS programs focus on strengthening families and the
communities in which those families live and work.

As assistant CFS Program Leader, Karen assists the CFS Program leader in providing overall leadership to the campus and county CFS staff. As the
Assistant Director, Tom is responsible for state-wide leadership for the
Agricultural and Natural Resources Extension program for the State of
Indiana. As Program Leader, he works with the county and campus based

the economics of Indiana as well as the lives and livelihood of all the
citizens of the state.

Assists
the ANR Program Leader in providing overall leadership to the campus
and county ANR staff. The Assistant ANR Program Leader represents Purdue
Extension at the regional level by coordinating the NCR Extension programs
in IPM, SARE, and Small Farms. The Assistant
ANR Program Leader acts
as the contact person to coordinate field days at the Purdue Agricultural
Centers and provides leadership
to the SARE and Small Farms work teams to deliver educational programs
throughout the state, and helps these teams identify research areas
that support these Extension programs. In addition, the Assistant Program
Leader helps the ANR Program Leader coordinate the overall campus and
field staff extension programs and activities of the Agricultural and
Natural Resources Program.

As program
leader for 4-H Youth Development, Renee works with the Director of
Extension to ensure federal compliance of the Indiana 4-H Youth
Development Program. The program leader is a member of the Purdue CES
Administrative team; facilitates programmatic and curricular updates with
field staff and specialists in the Department of Youth Development and
Agricultural Education; and reviews credentials, interviews candidates and
orients new faculty and staff.
Responsibilities of District
Directors:
Purdue Extension divides the state into five
geographic regions, each with a director that serves as the administrative
head for the region. District directors are the official representatives
between the university and county Extension boards, local government
bodies, and public and private organizations. They work in partnership
with the county Extension board of directors and the county Extension
director.

Sharon
provides objective, confidential counsel to Extension employees and
supervisors
regarding the employee/employer relationship. Sharon works to gain a
mutually acceptable resolution at the lowest level to disagreements
between employees and supervisors. She recommends the use of effective
human resource managerial practices such as setting expectations for
supervisors and employees, proper training, performance feedback, rewards
and recognition and progressive discipline. Sharon can help answer
and
interpret questions about University policy and laws such as the
university’s grievance procedures, the university’s policy and complaint
process for harassment and discrimination, the Family and Medical Leave
Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She works with
Peggy Titus to conduct training for EEO counselors, supervisors and
educators. Sharon is available to help all Extension employees with human
resource related questions or concerns.

Michelle is the
link between Cooperative Extension Administration and other areas of
business services including but not limited to human resources, travel,
accounting, disbursements and budget and fiscal planning. Michelle
develops financial data reports to support long range financial planning
forecasts for Associate Dean Petritz and his administrative team and
recommends course of action. She budgets and manages CES reserves,
discretionary funds and interdepartmental funds and accounts. She directs
and approves all Administrative sponsored research budget proposals.

Jane
coordinates and supervises the management, finances and business services
for Field Extension. She provides proper interpretation of
University, Federal and sponsoring agency policies and procedures. The
business manager works with Peggy Titus in developing orientations
for new
educators and participates in financial camps held throughout the state.
She conducts audits of counties’ Education Funds and verifies a
separation of duties is implemented in each office. With input from
District Directors and the Director of CES, the business manager
calculates raises for educators and analyzes the salary table throughout
the state.
