We still value and focus
on the traditional programs that 4-H is known for. But now, some of
those traditional programs have a new twist. We have new and updated
project materials, with an improved look. We use new delivery
methods. Computers and other technology have come a long way since
4-H began 100 years ago, and we’ve incorporated some of that
technology into the traditional projects. In addition to the
traditional 4-H projects, we’ve added some new projects. These
include computers, consumer clothing, aerospace, health,
personality, and many more. We're more in tune with individual needs
– reaching out to individuals who may not have had the opportunity
to be exposed to or participate in 4-H before. Our programs address
current issues that affect today’s society. We’ve taken the best of
what we’ve always done and made it better.
What is 4-H?
As a member of 4-H, you get to work with adults and teen volunteers
to learn and build skills in interesting areas. Did you know that
4-H is the largest youth organization in the state and in the
nation?
You can choose from more than 50 projects, including:
• Entomology
• Health
• Animals
• Weather
• Photography
• Computers
You’ll learn many skills
that will help you to become a better person. It doesn’t matter what
your interests are, because there are projects for everyone!
• Collect insects and mount and display them at your county fair.
• Create a poster about a health-related topic.
• Raise and show an animal.
• Observe the weather and report your findings on a display.
• Take and exhibit photographs.
• Demonstrate your computer skills to an audience.
This is your chance to help give back to your community, your state,
and your world.
What do the four H’s
stand for?
Head, Heart, Hands, Health
Head: 4-H gives you the opportunity to think and learn about
new and exciting things.
Heart: 4-H encourages positive relationships between you,
your peers, adults, and your community.
Hands: 4-H focuses on hands-on learning.
Health: 4-H helps you learn about making choices for a
healthy lifestyle.
How old do I have to
be to join 4-H?
All 4-H programs are inclusive and are open to everyone. If you want
to be involved in the club-based program, you have to be in grades
3-12. Some counties offer special programs for kids in kindergarten
and 1st and 2nd grades.
How much will it cost
me to be in 4-H?
The cost will depend on which projects you choose. Some projects,
such as foods or bicycle, won’t cost as much as other projects, such
as animals.
Why should I be in
4-H?
Being in 4-H means you have the opportunity to hang out with
friends, have fun, and participate in exciting activities. Members
keep very busy with 4-H activities:
