Get CheckingTM is an educational program designed to help consumers without a primary banking relationship gain access to basic financial services regardless of their banking history.

The six-hour curriculum focuses on account management issues and good debit practices.  Once a consumer successfully completes the program, meaning they have gone through the six hours of instruction, passed the exam at the course’s conclusion, and pay restitution to all financial institutions they owe, they can go into any of Get Checking’s 4,700 participating financial institution branches, show their certificate of completion and open up a deposit account.

eFunds supported the development of the Get Checking curriculum and joined as a national partner in 2001 to coordinate the effort to make the program available in as many communities throughout the U.S. by instituting what is now the cornerstone of the program.

Consumers reported to ChexSystemsSM who successfully complete Get Checking will have their ChexSystems consumer file notated, indicating they have taken a financial education course toward becoming fiscally responsible.
