Out-of-School Programming - Marion County

Out-of-School Programming

Out-of-School programs make a tremendous difference in any community, keeping children safe, helping them learn and supporting working families. These programs can be the "Key to Kids' Success".

Out-of-School programs are key to:

  • keeping kids safe
  • helping working families
  • improving academic achievement

With these key thoughts in mind, the following out-of-school programming is offered:

Adults and Children Together (ACT) Against Violence

This initiative stresses a child development approach and focuses on reaching adults who work with young children from birth to age 8. More information is available on www.actagainstviolence.org

    Character Counts!

Positive youth development is stressed through the six pillars of character: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.

    Developing Capable Young People

This training program is designed to increase the effectiveness of families, schools, and organizations in developing the personal assets and resources of young people.

Project GROW (Guidelines, Responsibility, Options, Self-Worth)

Project GROW is hands-on citizenship education that targets second, third, and fourth grades and follows an ecological model of self, family, neighborhood, community, state/county, and world.

    Talking with T.J.

This series is an exciting educational program to teach second through fourth graders to resolve conflicts with peers without using violence. The program encourages children to work and play in more caring and cooperative ways, a very important goal in today's culturally-diverse society.

There are two units to this series: Teamwork Series and Conflict Resolution.

    Freedom Through the Arts(FTA)

    FREEDOM THROUGH THE ARTS (FTA):

This is a no-cost out-of- school program for kids who have finished grades one thru five who live in the neighborhoods of Crown Hill, Highland Vicinity, Mapleton Fall Creek, and Meridian Highlands. FTA is sponsored by many Indianapolis community organizations.
