              Food and Nutrition Education Program


What is EFNEP?

        EFNEP is a federally funded nutrition education program conducted through the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service in every state and U.S. territory.  In Indiana, EFNEP is in 23 of Indiana's 92 counties.  The program utilizes trained professionals to deliver the educational message in homes, groups, or at community sites.



Who is EFNEP's Audience?

        Adults - Women who are responsible for planning and preparing the family's meal.  EFNEP targets
                      households with children birth to age 12.
        Pregnant teens and adults - are reached through the "Have A Healthy Baby" program.



Where is the EFNEP Program taught?

        Primarily in the homes of those served, but can also be taught in clincs, churches, and community sites.



What Topics are Included?

        EFNEP consists of 2-lesson modules.  Each lesson is about 45 minutes in length and includes a variety of hands-on activities, visuals and suggests recipe preparation.

With Whom Does EFNEP Collaborate?

     EFNEP refers participants to community assistance programs such as WIC, Food Stamps, Healthy Families,
Division of Family and Children, Nesting Doves, Healthy Children, and Bona Vista.



            A recent study indicated that every dollar spent on the EFNEP program;
                                $10.64 was saved in future health care cost.
