The mission of the Foods and Nutrition specialty is to help consumers better understand and evaluate
nutrition and food safety information.  With the continued need for Consumer and Family Science
education, the Extension Educator becomes a vital link in the community, providing information and educational
programming at the point-of-need to enhance lives, homes, and communities.

Safe Food for the Hungry:

Emergency feeding programs, such as food pantries, soup kitchens, and meal programs, help to feed more than 25 million
Americans. That's one in every 10 people in the United States!
Overcoming limited budgets, uncertain food supplies, less than ideal food storage or preparation conditions, and a
seemingly endless stream of those in need can be a difficult task. Through the Safe Food for the Hungry videoconference
workshops, videotapes, lesson plans, and supporting print materials, the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service
provides resources to help emergency feeding programs maximize the safety and nutrition of the foods they provide.
