Hancock Harvest Council - Hancock County
Hancock Harvest Council Farm Tour is June 27 Hundreds of central Indiana families flocked to the Hancock Harvest Council's first-ever farm tour in 2008. Harvest Council producers were so encouraged about the fun folks had at this event and their skyrocketing interest in locally grown foods that they decided to organize the event again this year. This FREE tour will include stops at four of our member farms where folks can learn about their local small farmers and the foods they produce. Representatives from other member farms will have information booths at various locations. As you look through our member directory elsewhere on this page please be advised that we have even more producers on board who are not yet listed - but will be soon! For more information feel free to contact any Harvest Council member or the Extension Office (317) 462-1113. Here's more information about the tour: Farm Tour News Release Farm Tour Flyer ******************** The Hancock Harvest Council is a member-supported group of farmers and others who are concerned about the sustainability of the small family farm. They feel that it is important for Indiana consumers to have ready access to high quality, locally grown farm products and that the close relationship of farmer and consumer can help provide for both. To that end, the Hancock Harvest Council seeks to expand the opportunities for agricultural producers in the Hancock County area to sell what they produce locally. This may include farm-direct marketing, farmers' markets, Community Supported Agriculture, and other means. Farmers markets can be a great place for local producers to meet customers who value what they grow. Fresh vegetables and fruit, herbs, flowers, nursery stock, bedding plants, eggs, meats and even some processed goods, among others, can all be grown locally and are much sought after and valued.
The Hancock Harvest Council looks forward to another year of growth in the local markets and welcomes the involvement and ideas of anyone with an interest in building the connection between consumers and local farmers.
The Hancock Harvest Markets are located this year at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Dates and hours are:
Saturday Morning Market June 6 to October 10 8 a.m. to Noon
Wednesday Market July 1 to October 7 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Market Master Dawn Lowe of the Greenfield Harvest Markets encourages anyone with an interest in selling high quality local farm products at one or both of the Saturday and Wednesday markets to contact her at (765)763-8702 or brushwoodfarm@yahoo.com.
