HAMILTON COUNTY AG DAY

At Ag Day I learned...

How farmers harvest their corn and soybeans.

A dairy cow produces 8 gallons of milk each day!

The difference between straw and hay.

What a wheat looks like and how it gets made into bread.

A beef cow can produce enough meat to make 1,500 cheeseburgers!

What a baby llama is called.

Pizza comes from a farm?

March 25-27, 2008

Each year over two thousand Hamilton County second graders and their teachers** travel to the 4-H Fairgrounds to learn about how agriculture affects their daily lives. Kids learn just exactly how many different ways they consume corn, soybeans, wheat, natural resources, and products.  Animal production and animal by-products will be explained with the use of beef cattle, dairy cattle, goats, horses, llamas, poultry, rabbits, sheep and swine.
The Hamilton County Ag Day Program is supported by the cooperative efforts of Purdue Extension Hamilton County; Hamilton County Farm Bureau Co-op; Hamilton County Farm Bureau, Inc.; Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District; Reynolds Farm Equipment; Beck’s Hybrids; Ag Reliant Genetics; Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc.; the Rabbit Producers, Sheep Producers, Pork Producers, Beef Cattlemen and Dairy Herd Improvement Association members of Hamilton County; and the Hamilton County 4-H Llama, Poultry, and Goat members and volunteers.
**Ag Day visits are scheduled for 2nd graders through local school corporations.  Ask your child's teacher if their elementary participates!
