A wide variety of programs are offered through the Hamilton County Cooperative Extension Services and may be taken through already scheduled courses.  In addition to our scheduling, many of these courses may be offered as an educational program for your own association or group.  More information may be obtained by calling or emailing the

Adult Children & Aging Parents

A program which includes family decisions and relationships in later life.  Tools for talking,  matters of life and death, long term care, understanding changing roles, making housing choices, legal decisions and local resources, and care giving tips. 
A series of 4 weekly sessions.

Topics covered will include tracking unplanned spending, managing credit and debt, communicating with family, and much more.

Super Sitter

Come learn how to become a Super Sitter!  Learn how to be prepared for sitting with infants, toddlers, and young children; what is most important; child development stages; age appropriate toys; first aid and safety; what to do in emergencies, and how to handle a variety of situations with children and strangers.  The 6 hour class includes videos, scenarios and role play.  A certificate is presented for completion of the class.  Program presented by Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service.

Master Gardener Program

Provides gardeners with intensive education in horticultural principles.
 The instruction is provided without charge, however, there is a fee for supplies which become your personal reference collection. Classes offered Thursdays from 1:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:30-9:30 p.m. depending on demand.  Participants who successfully complete the program and, thereafter, donate an equal number of volunteer hours in community gardening services are certified as Master Gardeners. Yearly donation of time is expected to maintain certification.

Next Series Starts August  2009

ACTS
"A Chance To Serve" leadership program.
Available to 9th graders.  After participating in a series of 5 day-long interactive leadership training sessions, the participants will be placed on a community board or committee for one year.  Adult community leaders will also participate in the 5 training sessions and will serve as mentors during the year's term.  Topics include communication, public speaking, listening skills, parliamentary procedure, consensus building, and community visioning - just to name a few.  Ask your school guidance counselor about the 2008 session.

Ag Day

A favorite of many 2nd grade teachers !!
Held annually in March since 1986, this program is open to all 2nd grades of Hamilton County schools. Focus is on the importance of agriculture in our daily lives.  Participants will have the opportunity to observe and learn about eleven different live animals, crop displays, 4-H, and a soil and water presentation.  A great field trip for 2nd graders, their parents, & teachers.  Learning packets are provided to the teachers. 

4-H Program

Something for Everyone!
The largest youth organization in the country, 4-H is open to all youth from 3rd through 12th grade.  Over 65 "learn by doing" projects are available to cover a wide variety of  interests.  In addition to all the fun they have, youth are building responsibility, citizenship, time management, and leadership skills.

Dining with Diabetes

 This class is open to those with diabetes, their family members and caretakers.  $15/person or $20/family and pre-registration is required.  Participants must attend both class sessions.  Recipes will be demonstrated, and participants will have the opportunity to taste each one.
