Noninfectious Injury on Tomato Karen Rane, Plant Disease Diagnostician Recently the P&PDL has received tomato plants with leaf spots that have no evidence of infectious disease associated with them. Symptoms appear to be due to a noninfectious factor, such cold injury or a nutrient deficiency. If cold injury is responsible for the symptoms,
the plants should "grow out" of the symptoms once growing conditions
improve. If soil has not been tested or if plants have not been fertilized,
then consider having soil analyzed for nutritional levels. Commercial
test kits for soil testing are available at garden centers. .
