Unidentified
Plant - Agastache
Q. I have tried and tried to identify this plant by searching in many
wildflower, weed and herb books but can't identify it. Since I found it
near my dad's woods beyond the cornfield, I do not know what color the
dense spikes were, as we only go to the area after harvest, which is after
frost.
Lunaria
annua (L. biennis), Money Plant, Honesty, Silver Dollar Plant
Money may not grow on trees, but it can grow on garden plants! This plant
"volunteered" in great quantity this spring in a shrub/ground
cover bed. The foliage and flower structure are typical of the mustard
family, though the spring flowers are purple (can be pink). Now in summer,
the plants have developed a distinct, round, flattened seed pod.
Sunflowers
for Summer Fun
Sunflowers have long been included in the typical Midwestern garden, but
modern hybrids have greatly expanded the palette of choices for today's
garden. Whether you want short, medium or tall; yellow, burgundy, bronze
or brown; seed for the birds; or just pretty-to-look-at, there's a sunflower
for you.
Hydrangea
Popular, but Challenging
Try
to have a discussion about hydrangea among your
gardening friends, and you're likely to start a rather lively debate.
What type to grow, when to prune, why doesn't it flower and how can I
change the flower color from pink to blue are among the most frequently
asked hydrangea questions.
