School Enrichment Programs

Welcome to 4-H School Enrichment! This program is available to all faculty members within Delaware County. It is designed to enrich curriculum in use by faculty, be "teacher friendly", and become a fun way for students to learn and experience studies through lessons and hands-on activities.

There is not a cost for schools to participate. The only requirement is for faculty members to complete a 4-H School Enrichment Enrollment form. Enrollment forms will be delivered with the kits. All programs will be delivered to participating schools.

To schedule a program or to find out more about programs that you are interested in, please feel free to contact the Delaware County Extension Office at 747-7732.

Chick It Out: Chick Embryology
(Grades 2-5)

What is more fascinating than to see a fully developed chick emerge from an egg? After three weeks of incubation, a seemingly lifeless chicken egg is developed into an active, peeping chick! The development stages from the egg to the emergence of the chick from the shell are covered in "Chick It Out."

This program includes an incubator, fertile chicken eggs, chicken feed, a teacher's manual, and bulletin board/learning center activities.

Only 3 incubators are available and are reserved on a first come, first serve, one per school basis. An additional learning center is available to check out if you have an incubator. (Any lost, stolen or damaged items will be replaced by the user.)

Indiana's Water Riches
(Grades 5 & 6)

Indiana's Water Riches studies one of earth's most precious natural resources - water. A ten minute video segment introduces each unit. The video segments take place in a television newsroom complete with an anchor person, reporter, and field "experts". After viewing the video, the students study an activity tabloid for each unit. The tabloid activities allow the teacher to evaluate student performance. The program includes a videotape of five units, one set of five activity tabloids for each student, "To The Last Drop" board game, plus a teacher's guide. The five unit topics include the following: Water Use; The Water Cycle; Surface and Groundwater, Water Pollution; and Water Conservation.

A Perfect Fit
(Grades K-8)

4-H encourages interaction in social and educational settings between individuals with and without disabilities. The benefits of all children working together include: the opportunity for members to interact with youth whom they perceive to be different; a chance for members to accept others for who they are and not for their differences; and the opportunity for members to grow as people by focusing on strengths, developing more positive attitudes, and removing prejudices, while attaining a greater sense of achievement and positive self-image. This program includes a video, games and activities, and a disability awareness activity guide.

Exploring 4-H
(Grades K-3)

Specifically designed for use in small groups, after school childcare programs, or camps. This exciting curriculum contains fun, hands-on activities that are designed to meet the developmental needs of the six to nine year old. Students learn how dinosaurs ate, why planes fly, where animals live, what causes pollution, and much more. The curriculum has twenty-one theme topics, each containing five sessions of projects and activities.

( Grades 2-4)

Blue Sky Below My Feet

This stimulating introduction to the world of science and technology uses the latest, research-based space technologies to teach skills for daily living on earth. Many developments from the space program are used by people today.

All three videos are 28:30 minutes in length. The videos concentrate on gravity and forces; fiber and fabric; and nutrition, food and fitness.

Windowsill Gardening
(Grades K-2)

Do you need a large area to grow plants? Not really...if you use the "Windowsill Gardening" approach. This activity begins with students planting seed in a unique greenhouse made from materials you can find in the kitchen.

The students are able to follow the germination of a seed and growth of a plant. A great hands-on experience! "Windowsill Gardening" includes peat pellets, greenhouse materials, and activity sheets for students to further explore plant science.
