A small garden behind Craine House designed to allow the
children to interact with the environment. We have planted snapdragons, several varieties of wild flowers, day lillies,
tomatoes, pepper and kitchen herbs. In addition, we plan to enhance the garden with stepping stones made by the children,
a wooden yard swing and fun items such as wind mills and sculpture.
The children of Craine House are considered at risk because their mothers have been convicted of crimes and sentenced
to incarceration. The garden provides the children with an opportunity to work with a sustained project that they maintain
(with adult supervision and guidance). They form a positive relationship with a caring adult, they gain respect for the earth
and they learn the values of patience, hard work and respect
for life and property.
