We all know how invasive these shiny, critters can be. But, if you're like us, you prefer an organic method of pest control.
Our favorite -- if not somewhat bloodthirsty -- way to rid a garden of Japanese Beetles is to gather them by hand and toss them into a blazing fire.
"Burn Those Beetles" is sort of simulated combat -- practice for when the Big One begins in the summer. And for the gardener, it's a rewarding way to win the battle.
Even if you lose the war.
RULES and OBJECTIVES
1. The object of the game is to use the garden glove to capture and fry as many Japanese Beetles as possible. Once the glove is over a bug, click and drag the beetle into the fire.
2. For each beetle tossed into the fire, you will receive one point. The glove is "fireproof" so make sure to put it all the way down into the fire.
3. When you rid the garden of beetles in multiples of ten, "Pansy Points" will pop up at the top of your screen.
4. For every beetle that misses the fire, not only will you be humiliated by a cackling bug, but you will also lose points. So be careful!!
5. Finally, we admit that you will never, ever rid the garden of Japanese Beetles entirely -- we wanted to make this game as realistic as possible. But hey, you can still have a good time trying!
This game requires a Shockwave plug-in. If you need it, click here to download "Shockwave Essentials."
DISCLAIMER: Burn Those Beetles did not use or harm any live bugs during the creation of this game. (We do, however, strongly encourage the deliberate destruction of real Japanese Beetles when summer comes.)
This game was designed by Kathy Petreré and programmed by Lynn Ramsay. And a special thanks to Kay Grimm and Beth Ann Maxon for letting our cyberbugs invade their garden.
