Experiential Learning - Marion County

The 4-H Educational Enrichment program offers public and private school teachers the opportunity to extend and enhance students' learning with fun, hands-on activities. Extension professionals collaborate with teachers to bring programs to students by providing a combination of instructional materials and teacher training, delivering instruction in the classroom (teaching or co-teaching), and/or conducting special educational events in schools or communities. 4-H curricula are developed around a 5-step experiential learning model:

* Perform a learning activity

* Share results, reactions and observations with others

* Process the content by reflecting on the experience

* Generalize - identify key concepts and connect them to other experiences

* Apply the key concepts to other learning experiences.
Along with subject matter

Students learn "life skills" such as problem solving, decision making, communication, and leadership. Curriculum materials used for school enrichment programs are reviewed to ensure quality and promote sharing.
